Webinar on 75th anniversary of Hiroshima Day held in DU

To commemorate the 75th anniversary of the tragedies of Hiroshima-Nagasaki bombing, the Department of Japanese Studies of the University of Dhaka held a webinar titled "Manhattan Project to Hiroshima-Nagasaki: Least Talked About Facts" on Thursday.
Prominent economist and Professor and founder Chairman of the Japanese Studies Department, Dr Abul Barkat chaired the webinar that was also attended by the current Chairperson Assistant Professor Dr Abdullah-Al-Mamun as the keynote speaker.
The webinar went underway with the valuable speech of Dr Abdullah-Al-Mamun, who shed light on lesser known facts concerning the Hiroshima-Nagasaki bombing; as well as the Manhattan Project, a research and development project led by the United States of America to create nuclear bombs.

Dr Abdullah stated how the University of Göttingen played a pivotal underlying role behind the Manhattan Project, as the majority of the key scientists behind the project were from this university. One of them being the infamous Albert Einstein.
He concluded his remarks by emphasising on how this "2 billion-dollar project destroyed humanity"and "given the condition of the world war during that time, bombing Japan was not necessary and it was only done to showcase the supremacy of the world powers."
The later half of the webinar accommodated the speech of the chair, Dr Abul Barkat. He commenced his speech stating, "everything we know about history is probably a lie. Because, as historians say history cannot be written".
Throughout his speech, he shared invaluable knowledge regarding the Manhattan Project and Hiroshima-Nagasaki bombing. Dr Abul Barkat comprehensively elaborated how all the wars around the world have continually been influenced by economic goals of specific nations. He further discussed the inter-generational damage done by the Manhattan Project and Hiroshima-Nagasaki bombing to the people of Japan and how lamentable this act of bombing was. The entire webinar was elated by the presence of Dr Abul Barkat.
The entire webinar was moderated by Dr DilrubaSharmin, Assistant Professor of the department.
Among others, the department's Assistant Professors Dr Md Jahangir Alam, Dr Lopamudra Malek, Nashia Zaman, Shiblee Noman, Lecturer Md Saifullah Akon and students attended the webinar as partakers.
