Is Aarong Earth worth the hype? Read our review

Organic beauty products are popular among consumers because they are thought to be safer for the skin, and also good for the environment.

Recently, Aarong rebranded their skincare line by introducing 'Aarong Earth'. Along with new products, there are some old products that were repackaged. 

The products apparently contain no harmful chemicals and are made of gentle formula to take care of your skin and hair. 

I used some of them to see if they were worth the rebranding hype. 

Aarong Earth items are available in every Aarong outlet, but because of the current situation, I ordered them online. The products were delivered to my doorstep within two days. 

I have dry and ultra-sensitive skin, so the results may vary on other skin types.

Handmade soaps

Price: Tk80

There are eight different handmade soaps by Aarong Earth. They are the Orange Peel Exfoliating Bathing Bar, Oatmeal Exfoliating Bathing Bar, Orange Clove Bathing Bar, Aloe Vera Bathing Bar, Sandalwood Bathing Bar, Kaolin Clay Bathing Bar, Turmeric Bathing Bar with Honey and the Neem Bathing Bar.

Each of these soaps costs Tk80.

I used the Oatmeal Exfoliating Bathing Bar and the Neem Bathing Bar. 

The Oatmeal Exfoliating Bathing Bar had a rough surface and did not smell like oatmeal. Rather, it smelled menthol-y, possibly because of the use of rose hip oil. 

But after using it, my skin felt smooth and moisturised.

The neem bar smelled strongly of neem, which I loved and although neem is herbal, it does not suit everyone's skin. But it suited mine so I would keep using it.

Hair oil and shampoo

Price: Tk160 to Tk180

Aarong Earth's hair oil costs Tk160 and the shampoo costs Tk180.

I have been using the hair oil for a long time and although it is not the greatest hair product, it is a trusted one. 

But I had some issues with the shampoo. After keeping the hair oil overnight, I used the shampoo to rinse it off. But even after using it three times, my hair remained greasy.

This product is better used as a mild, regular cleansing shampoo.

Body care

Price: Tk50 to Tk220

The Sea Salt Body Scrub costs Tk220 and the Herbal Uptan Body Pack costs Tk50. 

I wanted to ignore the mess of mixing and then rubbing the uptan, so I only got the scrub.

At first the scrub just seemed like a pretty little box filled with sea salt and essential oil, but after using it, I could not stop touching my skin! 

The luxurious feeling it gives is worth the price. It is the ideal self-pampering product.

Face wash

Price: Tk180

There are three regular face washes in the line – the Neem, Aloe vera, and the Tulsi Face Wash. There is also a Honey and Walnut 2-in-1 Face Wash and Scrub. Each of these costs Tk180. 

I bought the Tulsi Face Wash with Bursting Beads and the 2-in-1 face wash and scrub.

There were no 'bursting beads' in the face wash and it was not foamy enough. But it smelled like freshly mowed grass. 

However, the face wash and scrub is something that will remain on my shelf for a long time. 

You can smell the honey in it, and the rough, thick texture will make you feel you are actually scrubbing your face with honey and walnut. 

The scrub gave me a smooth, moisturised skin. I highly recommend this one.

Face mask

Price: Tk50 to Tk220

There are two face masks in this line: The Sandalwood and the Aloe Vera Mask. Only the sandalwood was available when I ordered online.

The container looks good but the product and its smell is not appealing at all. It is very thick and difficult to spread evenly all over the face. 

Rather than buying this for Tk220, I would buy the Tk50 sandalwood powder which would let me have control over consistency. 

I am also skeptical about the product's longevity as it can be easily affected by fungus if the container is not tightly closed.

The face mask did not give any instant glow which usually sandalwood masks give. It did make my face soft but I am still not a fan.

Face pack

Price: Tk50 to Tk60

I have been using the herbal face pack, uptan pack, and herbal scrub for a long time and they have always been good. 

The new packaging did not change the quality. All of these cost between Tk50 and Tk60.

But the herbal scrub has become gentler than before, which may be better but I miss the old formula.

Aarong Earth introduced Multani Face Pack and Orange Peel Face Pack. 

My favourite is the orange peel pack which I used with apple cider vinegar, and it did miracles! 

Just from the first use, the pores on my face became less visible and my skin was glowing. 

Do not use apple cider vinegar if you think it would affect your skin, but the pack is highly recommended.

Hair pack

Price: Tk60 to Tk80

The Mehedi Hair Pack and the Herbal Hair Pack with Sesame Oil costs Tk80 and the Herbal Hair Dye costs Tk60. 

I used the herbal hair pack with sesame oil and although a bit messy and difficult to apply, it gives you shiny, silky hair. Unfortunately, the effect does not last long.

Recommendation

So the question arises, was Aarong Earth worth the try? I would say it was. The product line has something for every skin type and every skin problem. 

The ones that would remain on my shelf are the Sea Salt Body Scrub, Honey and Walnut 2-in-1 Face Wash and Scrub, Orange Peel Face Pack, and the Herbal Hair Pack with Sesame Oil. 

However, I felt if the product line had a moisturiser, specifically an aloe vera soothing gel, it would have ticked all the boxes for a proper skincare routine. 

Needless to say, I am looking forward to seeing more products under Aarong Earth.
