Exhibition on super cheap art by famous artists
This show is aimed at democratisation of the art market, which is confined to a handful of art collectors because of the price factor.
You are young and you have a job. It does not pay you much; but your life is full of prospects. Job aside, you love art. You visit galleries and art shows, where you look at artworks by well-known or upcoming artists. While your mind conjures up how this piece of art would look on your bedside wall, the price tag just kills your dream.
After all, you can't buy an art by a well-known artist from Bangladesh or India for a paltry Tk4,000 or Tk5,000!
But what if you could? What if there is an upcoming art show in Uttara's Galleri Kaya from this Friday that actually offers you artworks by well-known to very famous artists for a price range of Tk4,000 to Tk71,000?

"This exclusive exhibition is designed for all art lovers and art enthusiasts who wish to collect art at an affordable price range," says Goutam Chakraborty, director of Galleri Kaya located at House 20, Road 16, Sector 4 in Uttara.
As many as 52 artists are participating in this show titled "Affordable Autumn". The artists include famous senior artists like KG Subramayan (1924-2016), Krishen Khanna (1925), Amitabha Banerjee (1928-2013), Badri Narayan (1929-2013), Murtaja
Baseer (1932), Suhash Roy (1936-2016), Lalu Prasad Shaw (1937), Jogen Chowdhury (1939), Monirul Islam (1943) and Rafiqun Nabi (1943).
From water colours of flowers to surreal linocut and abstract forms, the gallery will exhibit 93 works. Mostly drawing, the works include watercolour, etching, aquatint, lithograph, woodcut print, linocut, wood engraving, intaglio, serigraph, plate lithograph, photo etching and unique pressure print on paper.
Other artists include Jamal Ahmed, Abul Barq Alvi, Ahmed Shamsuddoha, Kazi Raqib, Ranajit Das, Sheikh Afzal Hossain, Shishir Bhattacharjee and Rokeya Sultana.
The cheapest artwork in the show is two serigraphs by Sheikh Afzal Hossain – which are caricatures of other artists of the Fine Arts Faculty of the Dhaka University.
The pricy works include those by Badri Narayan, Jogen Chowhury and some other artists.
This show is aimed at democratisation of the art market, which is confined to a handful of art collectors because of the price factor, Goutam said at a press event Tuesday in the city.
"But there is a greater number of art lovers in the country who love art, but cannot afford buying it," he said, adding that the affordable art show would help them collect art and thus create a broader base of an art market.
"If this is successful, we will organise more such shows," Goutam said.
