When in doubt, chop off your locks
Though short hairstyle is a fashion choice, it is still considered as a bold step in a stereotypical society. As sad as it is, long, straight hair is still thought of as a parameter of a woman's beauty
Perhaps for many women, one of their most prized possessions is their hair. Especially for those who have long hair. After spending days and months in grooming, brushing, and taming your long locks, it take real courage to chop them off in one go.
In my case, over time the trajectory of my life evolved, but the length of my hair did not. It kept on growing until one day, I decided to get rid of all of them. I wanted to be at peace with myself and my hair.
Usually my stomach would churn at the thought of cutting my hair shorter, and stylists at beauty salons always added more fuel to it. "Your hair is so long and beautiful, are you sure?"
But then one day, I did cut off most of my mane and I had never felt any better!
Cutting off stereotypes
Nonetheless, short hair styles have always remained in fashion. And cutting my hair was actually cutting off so much more. Though short hairstyle is a fashion choice, it is still considered as a bold step in a stereotypical society. As sad as it is, long, straight hair is still thought of as a parameter of a woman's beauty.
And there is of course a co-relation between cutting your hair shorter and your peace of mind. Be it a break up or a promotion, a haircut can always be a way to celebrate!
Cutting off expectations
What is heavier than the burden of expectations on a woman's shoulder? Not many things. Many expect women to behave according to a certain rulebook of the society. It is somehow expected that women will wear their hair longer in braids, or pull them up in big buns, because that is the ideal feminine look.
So, how to break all these stereotypes and free yourself from all these expectations? You could start with cutting your hair and freeing yourself from all these unhealthy expectations.
When you make your own beauty standards, it becomes comforting.
Cutting off damaged hair
Just like any other toxicities in your life, if you continue with your damaged hair, it will kill the remaining lively vibes of your good hair. Do not overthink about the good past, rather focus on the damaged present. Split and rough ends are always better when they do not exist!
Cutting off prep time
Needless to say, a short hair saves tons of preparation time and the money you would have otherwise spent on hair products.
It takes at least 15 to 20 minutes to prepare the long hair, including the time for a good wash. Combing, drying, and styling long hair is a painful process. With short hair, you can just wake up, bathe and get going!
Embracing changes
The fact is we often become comfortable in our mundane situations and the same goes for our tedious long hair. Some time a wind of change is needed in hairstyles. It keeps you going and gets you more attention.
It will grow back!
If the above-mentioned explanations failed to convince you, my words of advice to you are "it will grow back!" Even if you regret cutting off your hair, know that it will all grow back within months.
Unless you like to play with your own hair and always keep tousling it like shampoo ad models, you can pick out from numerous cute and trendy short hairstyles and go for one.
