Top fashion and lifestyle trends of 2020
Fashionable face masks, comfortable clothes for indoor celebrations, bright eye makeup – 2020 was ruled by these fashion trends
The coronavirus reigned all spheres of human life throughout 2020. The fashion and lifestyle segment was also significantly hit by the pandemic. This year, people across the world became more focused on the functionality of attires.
Comfortable cuts were preferred over tight-fitting clothes and many sought soothing colours over deep, dark ones. Matching masks and gloves, and eye makeup also became popular.
Sensing the public pulse, famous brands and companies launched different products that were compatible with the pandemic situation.
Here is a glimpse of the top trends and fashions of 2020:
$961 face shield
In the new-normal situation, face masks and shields have officially become a part of our everyday outfits. It was expected that luxury designers would want to cash-in on the biggest accessory trend to come out of the pandemic.
A number of brands have already made forays into fancy masks, but Louis Vuitton was the first to offer a high-fashion face shield, with a price tag to match.
The French fashion house released a face shield worth $961. It described the shield as "an eye-catching headpiece, both stylish and protective."
Bejewelled face mask
Wearing masks have become an inevitable part of life and people tried to look fashionable with bejewelled ones.
In India, a 49-year-old man from Pimpri-Chinchwad of Pune caught the attention of the media after photos of him wearing a gold mask went viral.
He spent around 3 lakh rupees to prepare the gold mask.
Besides, some brands and companies launched bejewelled masks for trendy and stylish users.
Some of the bejewelled masks have also been heavily criticised because they seemed impractical and unsafe. American singer Lana Del Rey once wore a glittery mesh mask at an event and her fans were not happy about it!
Mask Chains
With face masks becoming a mandatory fashion accessory, mask chains gave people a stylish edge. While they added purpose by holding your mask around your neck and keeping your hands free, you could not deny that they looked super chic with every outfit. Although not very popular, some wearers in Bangladesh have been seen donning them.
Self-care and eye makeup
The pandemic has mightily impacted consumer behaviour, with many upcoming beauty trends fast-forwarded and new purchase and usage patterns appearing.
During this period, an uptick of makeup and perfumes did eventually happen as consumers started to invest more on themselves, particularly because of high engagement in video conferences and virtual business meetings amidst a widespread work-from-home transition. Thanks to social media influencers, self-care was also a big hit this year.
Like previous years, some makeup trends grew big in the last year. Bright coloured eye makeup was the biggest makeup trend of 2020.
Don't Rush Challenge
The Don't Rush Challenge came to the forefront amid the Covid-19 pandemic and took the internet by storm.
In no time, it managed to become many people's favourite, who would grab a makeup brush, call their friends, and whole-heartedly participate with their TikTok accounts.
The challenge required a group of people to shoot their parts individually and create a compilation of how they changed their looks from normal to an absolutely glamorous one.
Different groups of makeup lovers were seen taking part in this challenge and having a great time.
Other fashion hits of the year
Some other items, including loungewear sets, bell sleeves, denim dresses, were favourites among stylish and trendy people throughout the year.
After spending many months inside the house, it was only natural that indoor clothing trumped outdoor wear by a whole lot.
Especially, loungewear sets ruled the roost. Whether in furry forms, covered with prints or lined with fleece, no one could bear to get out of them all through the day.
Just like the Don't Rush Challenge, there was another one where participants would wear a pillow, a bed sheet or a curtain and present it in the most fashionable way. Needless to say, this trend was only briefly popular.
Bangladeshi fashion houses also presented comfortable clothes in cotton and linen within affordable price range at the start of the pandemic.
If the pandemic had not taken place, there may have been other fashion and lifestyle trends which would have stolen our attention.
Here is hoping for a more stylish 2021!
