How to keep calm at workplace
How should someone remain calm in office, particularly on days when trouble brews in every corner
When we have to spend the majority of our days in the office, it is essential that we learn to keep our cool even when we are over stressed and the workplace seems like a difficult place.
There are certain office etiquettes and house rules which should be followed because after all, the office is a formal place. However, when things go haywire or cause irritation, only a certain level of outrage is acceptable.
Nevertheless, how should someone remain calm in office, particularly on days when trouble brews in every corner? Following are some tips:
Take a stroll
You can feel the anger boiling up and just as you are about to raise your voice, get up and take a walk. Walk just few steps on the corridor, lobby or you could even climb up few stairs. This way of distraction
might help you calm down.
Take deep breaths and/or sip on some water
Work related anxiety is now very common but it is important to keep it in check. A good way to calm down is take deep breaths for full 2 minutes and/or take small sips from a glass of water as your heart beat
gradually drops.
De-clutter your desk
A clean, de-cluttered desk or drawers will make it easier for you to find things during rush hours. Once every week or two, try to clean your cubicle or wherever you sit because neatly arranged things tend to calm us down.
Keep some greenery on your desk
A small potted plant or succulent, a bunch of flowers in a vase or even a cactus will brighten your cubby hole at work and calm you down at when you look at them.
Talk to a colleague
Talking to someone for a bit or having a light chat helps to relax so do that during office hours to feel good or refreshed.
Listen to music during breaks
During a break you can listen to some of your favorite tracks which can help sooth your mind. Instead of something fierce, try to listen to soft music.
Do some exercises
A little stretching of the legs or arms, slightly rotating the hips or the neck will loosen you up and calm you down.
Take time off your computer
There is an app called which you can install in your computer. The app will give you reminders to take your eyes off the screen, look away at something green and other exercises to make your eyes more comfortable.
