China attaches importance to developing bilateral relations with Bangladesh, China's Foreign Affairs Spokesperson Mao Ning's Office said today (5 September).
Spokesperson Mao Ning made the remarks in response to queries from The Business Standard's China correspondent Mohammed Saiyedul Islam regarding Chinese Ambassador Yao Wen's recent meeting with Shafiqur Rahman, ameer of the Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami party.
She also said China has always pursued a good neighbourliness and friendship policy for all Bangladeshi people. "We are willing to strengthen exchanges and cooperation with the interim government, political parties, and other sectors of Bangladesh."
"We will continue to support and assist Bangladesh's economic and social development to the best of our ability and play a constructive role in promoting the repatriation of refugees from Rakhine State who are now in Bangladesh.," added the Chinese official.
Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Yao Wen recently met with Jamaat chief Shafiqur Rahman at the party's central office in Moghbazar, Dhaka.
During the meeting, Shafiqur appreciated China's significant contribution to Bangladesh's economic and social development.
He reiterated Jamaat's firm support for the One-China principle.
He also requested China to be more active in investment and the rehabilitation of Rohingyas.
