19th Dhaka Int’l Film Festival to begin today
This time, DIFF will take place both physically and virtually from January 16 to 24
The 19th edition of Dhaka International Film Festival (DIFF) will kick off today. The inaugural ceremony of the festival will take place at the main auditorium of the Bangladesh National Museum at 4pm.
Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr A K Abdul Momen will be present as the chief guest and Indian High Commissioner Vikram K Doraiswami will be present as a special guest at the ceremony.
In order to brief the media about the festival, a press conference was held on Thursday at Dhaka Club. The press conference was addressed by festival director Ahmed Muztaba Zamal and other distinguished guests.
This time, DIFF will take place both physically and virtually from January 16 to 24. A total of 227 films will be screened with participation from 73 countries across the globe. The screening will be held at Alliance Francaise de Dhaka, Star Cineplex, Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy, Central Public Library Auditorium and Bangladesh National Museum Auditorium.
The festival will have a competition for "Asian Cinema Section", "Retrospective", "Bangladesh Panorama Section", "Cinema of the World Section", "Children Films Section", "Women Filmmakers Section", "Short and Independent Films Section" and "Spiritual Films Section".
Along with other regular segments, during the 19th edition of the DIFF, films of Ray will be screened under the 'Tribute' segment.
On January 20, a seminar titled, "Satyajit Ray: National as Global" will be held at Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy which will feature noted Indian actor Sharmila Tagore and Dhritiman Chatterjee, Justice Syed Refaat Ahmed, Critique Moinuddin Khaled, and noted actor and politician Asaduzzaman Noor. A keynote paper will be presented by Mofidul Hoque, cultural activist and Trustee of Bangladesh Liberation War Museum.
