Bad people will say bad things: Methila
She will represent Bangladesh in the final event of the Miss Universe competition which will start in the USA on May 15
Tangia Zaman Methila has become the champion of the beauty pageant Miss Universe Bangladesh 2020. The crown has already made her famous. It has also made her optimistic about her dreams. She is now going to represent Bangladesh in the finals of the Miss Universe which will be held in the USA.
In an interview with The Business Standard, Methila shared her feelings about becoming the Miss Universe Bangladesh 2020. She also spoke frankly about various controversies regarding her participation in the competition.
"I couldn't really believe that I became the champion. It's a different feeling. It's a source of pride for me. A Bollywood celebrity put the crown in my head. Everyone appreciated me. Everything seemed like a dream," Methila began the conversation remembering the moment of her becoming the beauty queen.
How confident was she of becoming the champion?
"I have been working in media for seven years. I've also worked on the ramp. Everyone knows me. I can talk in front of the camera, walk, I know how to post on social media. I'm already popular. Besides, I have acted in a movie called Rohingya in Bollywood."
"So, there was a minimum level of confidence while I applied for the competition. I had almost all the qualification for this event. There was also a risk. If I am not a winner, it will have a negative impact on my career," she added.
Methila claimed she was ahead of other competitors due to these reasons. Other competitors did not have the same experiences as her. That is why she was more confident.
"We had to be very regular here. I used to wake up in the morning, eat at the right time, work out at the right time, then rehearse, stay fit all day. We do not do these things properly in our regular life. But here we had to maintain that. I always thought I had to be different from the others. That is why I tried to do my best," she said.
However, the only thing she was afraid of throughout the competition was the question-and-answer session, she added.
There are already some controversies over Methila's win in the competition. Many have already talked on social media about her relationship with the head of the sponsoring company. Some also claimed that she hid her real age to take part in the competition.
"If you want to do something big, some people will take it well, some people will take it badly. Bad people will say bad things. There were more competitors here. They must have expected that they too would be the winners. Some may talk a little better than me but can't walk the ramp. You have to understand that talking is not everything," Methila approached the question directly.
"If the whole package of one competitor is right, then she will be able to represent the whole country. I am experienced. I know what to do in a situation. If I got upset, it would not happen. I want to move forward with the positive energy of those who are talking positively about me," she added.
In the context of hiding her age, she said, "The American organisers have got all my documents. My passport, my birth registration, and national ID are now in their hands. If there is any problem, they will take away my crown. I have nothing to do there. No one in Bangladesh has anything to do in this regard," she added.
About her good relationship with the head of the sponsoring organisation, she said, "I have a good relationship with everyone. I knew all the judges, organisers and groomers. Is it my fault? I have been working in the industry for seven years. I know many people. People don't even think once that this girl is dreaming only after working for seven years. I worked hard for seven years. These people do not see that. That's sad."
She said that the final event of Miss Universe will be held in the USA on May 15. She will go seven days before the event to prepare herself. In that event, beauties from around 90 countries will fight to be the best. Methila will represent Bangladesh. She said that she will do her best. "I'm going to be a winner there. This is a big responsibility for me. Now it seems, I am a public figure."
Methila starred in a Bollywood film called 'Rohingya' last year. She said that it will be released on Netflix and iMovie very soon. Besides, she has recently signed a contract for two films in Bangladesh.
However, Mithila dreams of working in Hollywood. "I want to work in Hollywood," she said. "It's nice to think that a Bangladeshi girl is working in Hollywood. I am slowly moving towards that dream."
