Destroy all my possessions when I die: Kabir Suman in his will
In a handwritten will posted on Facebook, Suman, often termed as the 'Nagarik Kabiyal,' expressed his wishes that none of his creations should remain in existence upon his death
Kabir Suman, a living legend of modern Bengali music, published his handwritten will on Facebook this Friday. The Indian lyricist, composer, singer, and former MP requested the Kolkata municipality to take away and destroy all his creations upon his death.
In the handwritten will, 'For Everyone's Awareness', Kabir requested that his body be donated for medical research upon his death.
"There should not be any memorial, mourning, or prayer gatherings held for me. All of my manuscripts, songs, compositions, notations, recordings, hard-disks, pen drives, notebooks, printouts should be handed over to the custody of the Kolkata municipality for destruction," he added.

He insisted that none of his possessions should exist after his departure, including all his musical instruments and tools. Kabir Suman declared that failure to honour his wishes would be an insult to his memory.
This artist's entry into the world of modern Bengali music was with the album 'Tomake Chai' in the early nineties. Soon after, he came to be known as the pioneer of modern Bengali music. He was also briefly involved in politics.
Kabir now spends his days practising Bengali Kheyal (alternatively spelt as Khyal), a modern genre of classical music in the sub-continent. He also regularly shares his art on social media.
Kabir did not explain his reasons for writing such a will.
"In the event of illness, hospitalization or death, I, of sound mind and body and with clear, independent judgement, authorize Mrinmayi Tokdar to handle all my matters," the will continued.
Mrinmoyee, replying to Kabir's social media post, accepted the responsibility.
Kabir Suman, often known as the 'Nagarik Kabiyal,' wrote in the Facebook post, "This is very important to me, and is in no way an emotional decision. I know that problems arise when things happen suddenly."
"I experienced something similar in 2012 when I was hospitalized with pneumonia. So, I am informing everyone openly today. Please refrain from commenting or giving advice. This is the most important notice from an elderly person. I am publishing on Facebook so that the will reaches everyone," he added.
"There are no frustrations, sadness, failures, or exhaustion in my life. I am happy, content, and doing my job," Kabir continued.
