Arundhati Roy lashes out at Modi Govt over citizenship law
Earlier, Roy had described the law as divisive, discriminatory and unconstitutional
Booker Prize-winning author and activist Arundhati Roy on Saturday expressed solidarity with the students protesting against the Citizenship Amendment Act on Saturday.
According to a recent report by The Indian Express, she showed up at the Jamia Millia Islamia University, saying, "If we all get together, there won't be a detention centre big enough for us. Maybe there will be a day when this government will be in a detention centre, and all of us 'azad' [free]. We won't back down."
Earlier, Roy was among leading writers and artists who had described the controversial citizenship law as "divisive, discriminatory and unconstitutional", demanding that the government withdraw it.

"The law would, along with a nationwide NRC, bring untold suffering to people across the country," a statement by a group of the writers and artists had said.
Delhi police had cracked down on Jamia Millia Islamia university back in December 15, clashing with students inside and leaving many injured, triggering domino protests across the country against the new Citizenship Amendment Act and a proposed nationwide National Register of Citizens (NRC), according to Indian media.
