City dwellers flock at meat, chicken shops
The city dwellers were seen flocking at the meat and chicken shops of the kitchen markets in the capital as the country is set to celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr, the largest religious festival on Friday.
The meat sellers in Hatirpool and Kathalbagan kitchen markets were having a busy time as the people rushed there to get their desired amount of meat competing with others.
At the same time, sales of chicken also witnessed a hike a day before the Eid festival. The buyers started to throng at the kitchen markets this morning and the crowd progressed further with the time.
Anowarul Islam, a meat seller of Hatirpool kitchen market, said "We are selling beef at Tk 600 per kilograms since the beginning of Ramadan. The cost of cattle transport has increased recently, but the prices remained comparatively stable."
Centering the Eid celebration the sale of meat spiked from yesterday, he said.
Besides, goat meat price hiked Tk 100 in per kilogram despite prices of beef remained stable. Each kilogram of goat meat is now available at Tk 900.
Md Yunus, who bought 3 kilograms of meat, said he does not purchase meat normally without any celebration. "I bought the meat for the Eid celebration, as guests will be coming to my house.", he said.
Prices of chicken
A large number of buyers crowded at the chicken shops, despite, the prices of broiler chicken raised Tk 20 per kilograms.
Two days back, the price of broiler chicken was Tk 150 per kg while it is now available at Tk 170.
Layer chicken was Tk 240 earlier which is now available at Tk 280 and Pakistani cock will cost Tk 320 per kg at the Hatirpool Bazar.
Md Rahat, a buyer, said "Although the prices are high, we have no alternative but to buy them for Eid."
Vegetables price
Besides, crowds seemed relatively thin in the vegetable shops where prices of all vegetables remained stable with green chili.
Per kilogram of cucumber is available at Tk 40, tomato at Tk 40, eggplant at Tk 30, potato at 20, okra at Tk 30, bottle gourd at Tk 40, bitter gourd at Tk 50.
Green chilli per kilogram is available at Tk 100 which was only Tk 50 two days back while 12 pieces of lemons will cost Tk 40.
Jaher Mia, a seller of the kitchen market, said prices of all vegetables are stable, only without the green chili hiked.
Soybean Oil
A five-litre bottle of branded soybean oil is being sold at Tk 640 to Tk 670 while Bashundara Soybean Oil is available at Tk 640, Teer at Tk 650, Rupchanda at Tk 670.
