TCB starts selling commodities marking birth centenary celebration of Bangabandhu
The state-run corporation will sell essential items including edible oil under the programme at an affordable price
The Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) started "Pre Ramadan selling of commodities and Special Operations" programme from March 17 marking the centenary birth celebration of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and the golden jubilee of independence.
The state-run corporation will sell essential items including edible oil under the programme at an affordable price.
Meanwhile, to rein in the price of edible oil, the corporation has decided to make double its selling of edible oil from tomorrow increasing the tally to 4 lakh litres per day from the existing 2 lak litres of edible oil.
Talking to BSS, Commerce Secretary Md Jafar Uddin said that the TCB has undertaken this programme marking the centenary birth celebration of Bangabandhu and also the ensuing month of Ramadan.
"We've also strengthened our operations to control the price of essential items including edible oil. Four lakh litres of edible oil will be sold per day from tomorrow," he added.
According to the TCB officials, the corporation sells edible oil, sugar, lentil (Mosur Dal) and onion through 400 trucks while it would allocate 1,000 liters of edible oil for each truck for selling those every day from tomorrow alongside making double the selling of other iteams like sugar, Mosur Dal, and onion.
An interested buyer can take highest 4 kgs of sugar, 2 kgs of mosur dal, 5 litres of soybean o8il, 5 kgs of onion from each truck.
The Commerce Secretary said the TCB would increase the number of trucks by 100 to total 500 for selling essential items from April 1 in a bid to control the price of essentials during the Holy month of Ramadan.
