Dhaka condemns desecration of national flag outside Bangladesh mission in Kolkata
Ministry says there is a sense of insecurity among all members of Deputy High Commission
Bangladesh has "strongly condemned" the desecration of its national flag and the burning of an effigy of Chief Adviser Prof Muhammad Yunus during a violent protest organised outside the Deputy High Commission of Bangladesh in Kolkata.
In a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs today (29 November), Bangladesh called upon the Indian government to take immediate measures to prevent such incidents in the future.
According to the statement, the "violent protest" was organised by a Kolkata-based Hindu organisation named "Bongio Hindu Jagran".
It said, "The rally and demonstration organised by a large group of protesters turned violent, with the protesters breaking through police barricades and reaching the boundary of Bangladesh Deputy High Commission.
"They set fire to the national flag of Bangladesh and burned effigy of the Hon'ble Chief Advisor of the Government of Bangladesh. Although the situation seems to be under control at the moment, there is a prevailing sense of insecurity among all the members of the Deputy High Commission."

It also condemned any form of violent activity and urged the Government of India to ensure safety and security of the Deputy High Commission of Bangladesh in Kolkata and other Diplomatic Missions of Bangladesh in India as well as its diplomats and non-diplomatic members of staff.
