Mymensingh woman shot dead on Dhaka-Mawa Expressway
The deceased's mother alleges the girl was killed by a man she was involved in a romantic relationship with
A 22-year-old woman was shot to death by unidentified individuals on Dhaka-Mawa Expressway in Munshiganj's Sreenagar area today (30 November).
The body of the deceased, identified as Shahida Begum, was found on the Sreenagar-Dogachi service lane of the expressway this morning.
Hailing from Mymensingh's Begun Bari Bazar area, Shahida was a resident of Wari in Dhaka.
Confirming the matter, Sreenagar police Officer-in-Charge (OC) Kaiyum Uddin Chowdhury said they also found five bullet shells near the body, suggesting she was shot dead by unidentified assailants there.
Some locals said the woman was seen walking on that service road with a young man at dawn. They said pedestrians discovered her bullet-ridden body lying on the highway about an hour and a half later.
Shahida's brother Md Jasim said their family moved to Wari 10 years ago. Shahida is the third child out of their five siblings.
"Shahida used to work for a woman in Baldha Garden of the capital. She used to drop the children of the woman from home to school and later pick them up. Shahida came out of her own house at 11:30pm on Friday, saying that she was going to that woman's house." added Jasim.
He, however, could not confirm whether Shahida was involved in any romantic relationship with anyone.
But Shahida's mother Jorina Begum said a guy used to "disturb her all the time".
"He used to call her to meet up. She used to go out with him. His name is Tuhin. I used to tell her that this boy would harm her, but she never listened. He had several fights with Shahida. This boy has killed my daughter. People have seen it.
"There's a picture of that boy with my daughter on the phone. My daughter would never go out alone. She went out with him," Jorina alleged.
Police have sent Shahida's body to Munshiganj General Hospital mortuary for autopsy.
"We are trying to collect CCTV footages of the incident site. Hopefully, this murder will be solved soon," said Sreenagar and Louhajang Circle Additional Police Superintendent Anisur Rahman.
