‘Bangladesh Reborn: Pathway to July 36’ photo exhibition by BJIM starts tomorrow
The event will officially open at 3:30pm tomorrow and continue through until 8pm on 12 December
To commemorate its second anniversary, Bangladeshi Journalists in International Media (BJIM) is set to present a compelling photo exhibition, titled "Bangladesh Reborn: Pathway to July 36" at the EMK Center in the capital.
The exhibition focuses on the July-August revolution that led to the fall of former prime minister Sheikh Hasina's 15-year rule, according to a media statement issued today (1 December).
The event will officially open at 3:30pm tomorrow (2 December) and continue through until 8pm on 12 December, with closures on 6 and 11 December.
In addition to the physical exhibition, the collection will be accessible through EMK Center's virtual gallery.
Mahir Sarowar Megh, son of the late journalist couple Sagor Sarowar and Meherun Runi, will inaugurate the event tomorrow.
On behalf of all BJIM members, Founding Convener Sam Jahan and Founding Member Secretary Faisal Mahmud have invited journalists, diplomats, academics, rights activists, students, and members of the public to visit the exhibition.
Renowned photographer and BJIM member KM Asad has curated the exhibition, featuring works submitted by BJIM members.
"While not all contributors are professional photographers, their images provide a unique, frontline perspective on the revolution, which resulted in significant loss of life and highlighted the importance of a free press," read the statement.
Following the inauguration, BJIM members who covered the student-led movement will share their experiences in an informal discussion. These firsthand accounts will offer visitors a deeper insight into the pivotal events that unfolded.
The exhibition is a powerful reflection of resilience and the ongoing fight for press freedom in Bangladesh, added the statement.
BJIM, established in July 2022, is a prominent advocacy group dedicated to protecting press freedom and supporting Bangladeshi journalists. The organisation has consistently championed the rights of journalists, particularly during periods of restrictive media laws and censorship.
BJIM works closely with the Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) to add value to its campaigns.
Earlier, in collaboration with EMK Center, BJIM launched a prestigious fellowship programme in 2023, benefiting 40 mid-career journalists who have since excelled in their respective fields.
