Visa, consular services at Bangladesh Assistant High Commission in Agartala suspended
All visa and consular services at the Bangladesh Assistant High Commission in Agartala will remain suspended.
The services will remain halted given the current situation until further notice, according to a notification today (3 December), signed by First Secretary of the commission Md Al-Amin.
The order will come into effect immediately.
"This is for intimation of all visa and consular service seekers," reads the notification.
Earlier on 2 December, the Bangladesh Assistant High Commission in Agartala was attacked when thousands of people took out a massive rally in the Tripura capital to protest the arrest of Iskcon leader Chinmoy Krishna Das, demand his immediate release, and the stoppage of attacks on Hindus in Bangladesh.
Later on, hundreds of protesters held a demonstration outside the Bangladesh Deputy High Commission in Mumbai, India, demanding the immediate release of Chinmoy Krishna Das, who was recently sent to jail on sedition charges.
The protesters included members of Indian right-wing groups such as the Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP), religious leaders and activists, BJP MLA and former Indian minister Mangal Prabhat Lodha, reports The Hindu.
"Over 500 people, including sadhus, saints, and members of the public, participated in the demonstration," VHP national spokesperson Shriraj Nair told the Indian media.
