Gold worth Tk1.3 crore seized from Biman flight at Sylhet airport again
This comes just two days after 1.283 kg of gold bars were seized from another Biman flight at the airport
Customs authorities at the Osmani International Airport in Sylhet seized over 1kg of gold ornaments from a flight this morning (6 December), marking the second such incident in two days.
The gold jewellery, weighing 1.167 kg, was found wrapped in black plastic and abandoned under seat 26C on Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight BG-248, which arrived from Dubai at 9:25am, said Md Sohanur Rahman, assistant commissioner of the airport's Air Freight Division.
"The recovered ornaments include 18 bangles and three chains, with an estimated market value of Tk1.3 crore," he added.
The smugglers likely abandoned the gold upon noticing the presence of customs officials, Sohanur said. "We are yet to identify the people involved in this smuggling attempt."
A case will be filed over the seizure of the gold, he added.
This seizure came just two days after 11 pieces of gold bars, weighing 1.283 kg, were seized from another Biman flight at Osmani International Airport.
