Murder attempt case filed against Chinmoy, his followers over Ctg clash; Court orders police to investigate
So far, five cases have been filed in connection with the lawyer murder and violence centring Chinmoy’s bail
A case has been filed against Chinmoy Krishna Das, former ISKCON leader and spokesperson for Bangladesh Sammilit Sanatan Jagran Jote, and 163 others over an alleged attempt to murder and assault during a clash on Chattogram court premises on 26 November.
Enamul Haque, a businessman and Hefazat-e-Islam Bangladesh activist, filed the case with the court of Chattogram Metropolitan Magistrate today (8 December).
Judge Md Abu Bakar Siddique took cognizance of the case and directed the officer-in-charge of Kotwali Police Station to investigate the allegations, said the plaintiff's lawyer Advocate Md Shamsul Alam.
The case lists 164 named individuals and 400-500 unidentified persons as accused.
According to the case documents, on 26 November, Enamul, who came to the court for registration work of a piece of land, was physically assaulted allegedly by the supporters of Chinmoy amid violence following the denial of his bail petition in a sedition case.
Saiful Islam Alif, a lawyer was hacked to death on the court premises during the clash on the same day.
