Gaan Bangla Television broadcast suspended due to unpaid satellite fees
The broadcast of Gaan Bangla Television has been suspended due to unpaid satellite fees.
Bangladesh Satellite Company Limited (BSCL) decided to cease its transmission, confirmed Shah Ahmedul Kabir, general manager of Sales and Marketing at BSCL to Prothom Alo yesterday (11 December).
He said, "The channel owes us a significant amount of money. Despite multiple reminders and letters, they have only made small, sporadic payments. This is not sustainable. Therefore, we have temporarily disconnected their connection. If they clear the dues, we will restore the service."
He further informed that the broadcast of Gaan Bangla TV has been off-air since 12pm yesterday.
"Kaushik Hossain Taposh is the managing director of the organisation, and his wife, Farzana Munni, serves as the chairperson. Despite their roles, they have remained unreachable, and no direct communication has taken place with them. Instead, their communication is handled by Taposh's father, Delwar Hossain Raja. Discussions about the outstanding dues were held with him, where it was explained that the connection could no longer be maintained under the current circumstances," he added.
He also said that a total unpaid satellite fee owed by Gaan Bangla TV amounts to Tk1 crore 60 lakh 32 thousand.
Earlier, on 4 November, Dhaka Metropolitan Police arrested Kaushik Hossain Taposh, singer, composer and chairman of Gaan Bangla Television, from the capital's Uttara.
Later a Dhaka court showed him arrested in a case lodged for allegedly grabbing private channel Gaan Bangla television on 9 December.
