Martyred Intellectuals Day: Flood of people at Mirpur, Rayerbazar memorials to pay tribute

People from all walks of life gathered at the Martyred Intellectuals Memorials in Mirpur and Rayerbazar of the capital since this morning (14 December) to commemorate Martyred Intellectuals Day.
Students from various educational institutions in the city and leaders and activists of different political organisations have been coming to the memorial with banners and festoons since dawn.
The first people to pay respect to the martyrs were President Mohammed Shahabuddin and Chief Adviser Prof Muhammad Yunus.
Shahabuddin placed the wreath at the Martyred Intellectuals Memorial at Mirpur at about 06:59am and the chief adviser at 7:15am to pay tributes to the intellectuals.
Later, members of the martyrs' families and other freedom fighters led by Liberation War Affairs Adviser Faruk-e-Azam paid respect at the Mirpur memorial at 7:22am and the Rayerbazar memorial at 8am.
Since 8:30am, the Rayerbazar memorial has been open to the public for paying respects. A long queue of people from all walks of fire was seen outside the memorial, and many people were found standing quietly in front of the graves of the martyrs after paying respect.
Many people were also seen praying for the slain heroes of the nation, bringing a solemn atmosphere to the place.
