Indices turn lower as week begins
Turnover on the DSE trading floor has gone down 33 percent to Tk28.65 crore in the first session
The indices of two top bourses dropped today in the first one-and-half-hour of trading session over the economic uncertainty caused by the coronavirus pandemic.
EBL Securities in its market commentary said, "The bourses kept on reporting a downward trend since the investors took up a cautious stance due to the pandemic situation in the country, which is getting worse every passing day as number of infections and fatalities continue to surge, with looming uncertainty in economic growth."
DSEX, the prime index at the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), declined by 6 points – or 0.15 percent - to reach at 3,980 till 11:30 am.
The Shariah-based DSES index also decreased by 0.45 points to settle at 921 and the blue-chip index DS30 dropped by 2.4 points to stand at 1,337.
Turnover on the DSE trading floor has gone down 33 percent to Tk28.65 crore in the first session.
Out of the 224 issues traded during the same time frame, only 17 company's share prices advanced, 37 declined, and 170 remained unchanged.
Meanwhile, the benchmark index CASPI at the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) has lost 9.99 points to close at 11,311.
