During the briefing, Khuda Baksh added, "The exact number of rickshaws currently operating in Dhaka is unknown. Once registration is completed, we will have a clear count of these vehicles. This data will then enable us to determine the appropriate number of rickshaws that should be allowed to operate within the city”
Pedal and battery-run rickshaws will soon be required to register to ply on Dhaka streets, said Khuda Baksh Chowdhury, special assistant to Chief Adviser Prof Muhammad Yunus today (19 December).
"A guideline for this registration process is currently under development. To effectively control pedal and battery-run rickshaws within the city, we will implement a mandatory registration system. We are currently developing a guideline for this process, which is expected to be finalised within a week" he told reporters following a coordination meeting focused on 'Strengthening discipline in the road transport sector, reducing traffic congestion in Dhaka metropolis, and controlling air pollution.'
