Govt to procure 1 cargo LNG, 1,30,000 MTs of fertiliser

The government today approved separate proposals for procuring one cargo of Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) and 1,30,000 Metric Tons (MTs)of fertiliser to meet the country's growing demand.
The approvals came from the 18th meeting of the Advisers Council Committee on Government Purchase (ACCGP) held at the Cabinet Division conference room at Bangladesh Secretariat in the city.
Adviser to the Ministry of Finance Dr Salehuddin Ahmed chaired the meeting.
Following a proposal from the Energy and Mineral Resources Division, Petrobangla would procure one cargo LNG from the spot market from M/S POSCO International Corporation, Incheon, Korea through an international quotation process with around Tk692.99 crore per MMBtu LNG costing $14.69.
Besides, in a proposal from the Ministry of Industries, the Bangladesh Chemical Industries Corporation (BCIC) would procure some 30,000 MTs of bulk granular urea fertiliser from Karnaphuli Fertilizer Company Limited (KAFCO) under the 10th lot for the fiscal year (FY25) with around Tk123.57 crore, with per ton fertiliser costing $343.25.
Following another proposal from the Ministry of Industries, the BCIC would procure some 30,000 MTs of bulk granular urea fertiliser from SABIC Agri-nutrients Company, Saudi Arabia under the 14th lot for the fiscal year (FY25) with around Tk125.88 crore, with per ton fertiliser costing $349.67.
In response to a proposal from the Ministry of Agriculture, the Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation (BADC) would procure 30,000 metric tons of MOP fertiliser under state-level agreement from Prodintorg, Russia with around Tk104.31 crore where per ton fertilizer would cost $489.75.
Besides, BADC would also procure 40,000 metric tons of DAP fertiliser under state-level agreement from OCP NUTRICROPS SA, Morocco with around Tk 280.56 crore where per ton fertiliser would cost $584.50.
