Judi Dench reveals tree planted for Maggie Smith bore fruit on funeral day
Veteran actor Dame Maggie Smith, famed for Harry Potter and Downton Abbey, passed away in September at 89.
Her close friend Dame Judi Dench planted a crab apple tree in her honour, which astonishingly bore fruit on the day of Smith's funeral. Dench shared this poignant moment on Maggie Smith at the BBC, aired on what would have been Smith's 90th birthday.
"I had it in my pocket at her funeral, which was a very nice thing to have. We had such great times,"she said.
Dench fondly remembered Smith as witty, humorous, and sometimes intimidating, recounting their work in films like Ladies in Lavender. Fellow actor Sir Derek Jacobi also praised Smith's immense talent.
The BBC tribute celebrated Smith's illustrious career with interviews and archival clips, highlighting her remarkable legacy on stage and screen.
