Tarique still out of country as conspiracy afoot again: Fakhrul
Due to this game of conspiracy, our leader [Khaleda Zia] had to stay in jail for six years. Our acting chairman is still having to stay out of the country,” he said
BNP Acting Chairperson Tarique Rahman is staying out of the country due to the resurgence of the same conspiracy which had forced him to stay abroad, the party's Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir alleged today (1 January 2025).
"We have repeatedly said that, unfortunately, a game of conspiracy is afoot in the country once again. Due to this, our leader [Khaleda Zia] had to stay in jail for six years. Our acting chairman is still having to stay out of the country," he said at a discussion event marking the Bangladesh Jatiotabadi Chhatradal's founding anniversary at the Engineer's Institution auditorium.
The alleged conspiracy aims to keep away those party leaders "who believe in Bangladesh, who can loudly say 'Bangladesh first'", Fakhrul said.
"This has happened many times before. The people of Bangladesh will never support this plot," he said.
The BNP leader went on to say that there have been many attempts to break the BNP, but those have never been successful.
Speaking at the event, Fakhrul once again urged the interim government to hold the next general elections as soon as possible.
"There's a political crisis and an election accepted by all can be the only solution to this," he said.
"We believe that reforms are an ongoing process. Reforms should be brought along with the needs of the people as well as the needs of the time. So, in the name of reform, we cannot allow something to happen, which will disrupt our democracy," added the senior BNP leader.
'Increase social media activities'
Referring to Chhatradal as the vanguard, Fakhrul said, "They are our front-line fighters. Chhatradal must now focus on knowledge-based politics."
He also asked Chhatradal activists to increase their social media activities.
"We need to strengthen our presence in the digital world, especially on social media. If we fail in this, we will lose the battle," Fakhrul said.
Mentioning that conspiracy is going on in home and abroad, Fakhrul expressed confidence that the talent of JCD activists would enable them to overcome these challenges and emerge victorious.
