More and more Bangladeshi households are getting online, with a new report from the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS) showing that the number of households with internet connection reached 50.4% in the July-September period of 2024, compared to 43.6% in 2023 and 38.1% in 2022.
The survey, released today (1 January), also reveals a regional disparity: 46% of rural households and 60.3% of urban households are internet users.
These findings were part of the BBS's ICT Access and Use Survey 2024-25 for the first quarter of FY24, based on data collected from 61,632 households across 24 randomly selected sample areas nationwide.
According to a survey, household electricity consumption slightly decreased in the July-September period of 2024. Currently, 98.2% of households use electricity, down from 99.1% in 2023 and 98.9% in 2022.
Additionally, 9.2% of households own computers, with usage gradually increasing. The rate was 8.9% in 2023 and 8.7% in 2022.
The survey also found that 98% of households now have at least one mobile phone, up slightly from 97.9% in 2023. Smartphone usage has risen to 70.1%, compared to 63.3% in 2023 and 52.1% in 2022.
Meanwhile, television usage among households increased to 63.5%, up from 62.2% in 2023.
