Comilla University holds its inaugural session of HULT Prize 2025
Hult Prize at Comilla University (CoU) hosted its inaugural information session for the preeminent global case competition's 2024 - 2025 OnCampus round.
The session took place on Thursday (January 2) in the magnificent conference room of the university's Faculty of Business Studies. It aimed to enhance student engagement with the Hult Prize Competition and address all their queries regarding the international business competition.
As the keynote speaker, Tanvir Anjum Shovon, the national coordinator of the Bangladesh Hult Prize Foundation, conducted the session. Tanvir, who is acting as the National Coordinator of Hult Prize Bangladesh for this year, brilliantly illuminated the intricacies of the Hult Prize competition for an audience of more than a hundred students. Zahid Hasan, an Assistant Professor in the Management Department and the esteemed guest of honour, joined the discussion on challenges and innovative ideas, sharing visionary perspectives on the evolving landscape for aspiring entrepreneurs.
Commencing at 2:30 pm that noon, this session was an inspiring catalyst for budding social entrepreneurs.Tanvir Anjum Shovon delivered a speech on the rules and scope of the 'Hult Prize competition, highlighting this year's structure and the opportunity for students to showcase their ideas globally. University students can participate through the 'On-Campus Round' or the 'Open Application' process. After successfully passing this stage, the winning teams can advance through the National, Digital Incubator, and Global Accelerator phases to compete in the Global Final competition.
The competition is currently held in 113 countries worldwide, with Bangladesh being one of the 20 countries hosting the National Summit for the Hult Prize in 2024-25. So far, the 'On-Campus Round' competition has engaged approximately 187,000 participants from 1,324 universities around the globe. Eighty-three universities from Bangladesh are part of this extensive network, which involves more than Nine thousand startups. Shovon noted that this is a great opportunity for CoU students, as the university has joined a significant network. Under the slogan "Changing the World through Social Initiatives," he motivated students to participate in the competition.
Tanvir concluded the session with a virtual quiz for the audience, providing an engaging opportunity to test and expand their knowledge. This highlighted the session's value as a resource for participants and aspiring young entrepreneurs, inspiring both entrepreneurship and social change.
Regarding the first session of the On-Campus Round for the Hult Prize 2024-25, Campus Director Md. Mujahidul Islam said, "Today, the first offline session of the Hult Prize Comilla University On-Campus 2024-25 was held. The main objective of today's session was to give participants a thorough understanding of the world's largest business competition, the Hult Prize. This is why we invited National Coordinator Tanvir Anjum Shovon, who discussed the rounds, themes, and other relevant topics during his session. There are still six days left for registration, but today's session showed a promising turnout. The competition will be held in three rounds, and additional sessions will be organised to guide participants at each stage. We hope this session will encourage more teams to register in the upcoming days.
This year's Hult Prize on-campus event at Comilla University was initiated on Nov 5 after the relaunch of the Hult Prize. The registration window opened on 18th December. The students of CoU will need to participate as a group of 2-4 members. Due to the overwhelming response, the registration deadline has been prolonged to 08 January 2022. The winning teams of the on-campus round will be taking part in the subsequent phases of the Hult Prize, where they will be competing for 1 million US Dollars in seed money for their start-up, a prize for the global finalists jointly awarded by the United Nations and international partner EF (Education First). Dr Muhammad Yunus is currently serving as the Global Advisor for the Hult Prize competition in Bangladesh.
