A new political party, the Desh Janata Party, was officially launched today (4 January). Advocate Iqbal Kabir was made chief adviser for the party.
The party's organisational structure was also unveiled during the event. A 105-member executive committee was announced, with Md Nur Hakim as party chairman and Idris Ali Nantu as general secretary.
The launching event took place at a press conference held at the EDB Trade Centre in the city's Karwan Bazar area.
While reading the party's declaration paper, Chairman Nur Hakim said, "Its aim is to build a happy, prosperous, developed, equitable, poverty-free, secular, liberal democratic and liveable Bangladesh."
The Desh Janata Party was initiated on 12 December 2016, Nur Hakim informed.
"The party was established to represent the people, ensure their human rights and welfare, and contribute to nation-building," he added.
The party envisions a Bangladesh with full employment, free from poverty, unemployment, and carbon emissions, while ensuring a clean climate and environmental protection.
Committed to equality, human dignity, and social justice, the party aims to build a humane, safe, and liveable Bangladesh rooted in independence and free from communal divisions.
It also states that it will uphold trust and respect for the Constitution, work to establish fundamental human rights, include access to employment, food, clothing, shelter, education, and healthcare, alongside safeguarding constitutional, civic, and freedom of expression rights.
The party seeks to implement union-based administrative and service development, adhering to laws, the state system, and electoral empowerment.
With a vision of a balanced democracy, it advocates for rule of law, freedom of speech, equality, and voting rights, free from exploitation and injustice, ultimately striving to create a non-violent and safe Bangladesh.
