BGB, BSF hold flag meeting amid tension over India building fence at Chapainawabganj border
A flag meeting was held on Wednesday afternoon between both sides at the battalion commander level to discuss the issue
The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has held a flag meeting with India's Border Security Force (BSF) amid rising tension over the construction of a barbed wire fence at the Chapainawabganj border by the latter.
A flag meeting was held on Wednesday afternoon between both sides at the battalion commander level to discuss the issue, Lt Col Golam Kibria, commander of 59 BGB Battalion, said.
The BSF had begun digging the soil to build the fence near border pillar 177/2 S in the Shibganj upazila area of Chapainawabganj, he said.
However, the BGB strongly protested, and the BSF halted their work twice in response, he added.
On Wednesday (8 January) morning, when the BSF resumed their work, the BGB intervened again, leading to the flag meeting.
Both sides agreed that no further construction would take place without an agreement between the BGB and BSF headquarters.
