Munshiganj woman found hanging with injury marks: In-laws claim suicide, mother alleges murder
Mahmuda’s mother has alleged that she was killed while her in-laws claim that she committed suicide
A woman was found hanging from the ceiling of a room at her in-laws with injury marks in Munshiganj's Gazaria today (10 January).
The deceased has been identified as Mahmuda Akhtar, 38, wife of Imran from Aralia village of the upazila's Baluakandi union. They had two daughters and one son in their nine years of marriage.
Mahmuda's mother has alleged that she was killed while her in-laws claim that she committed suicide.
Gazaria Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Anwar Alam Azad told The Business Standard that the body is currently at the police station.
"There are some injury marks on the deceased's body. Whether it was a murder or a suicide will be determined through investigation," the OC added.
According to Mahmuda's neighbours, Mahmuda and her husband often quarrelled over various issues. On Friday, they had an argument over a family matter.
Shortly after this incident, Mahmuda's body was found hanging from the ceiling fan in their bedroom. She was rushed to Gazaria Upazila Health Complex, where the on-duty doctor pronounced her dead.
They also claimed that her husband and his elder brother fled the scene after they put her in a van.
Speaking to TBS, Mahmuda's mother Marzina Begum said, "Around 9:30am today, my son-in-law called me. Keeping me on the phone, he started beating my daughter. Around 10am, my daughter was beaten again. I believe she was killed at that time."
"Her body was hung to stage it as a suicide," Marzina alleged.
Marzina also claimed that both Mahmuda's husband Imran and his elder brother Wasim did not take her to the hospital, which proves that they killed her.
Meanwhile, speaking over the phone, Wasim denied the allegations and said, "Mahmuda used to get angry easily. My younger brother tried his best to adjust to it. This morning, she tried to commit suicide once by locking the door of the room, but we rescued her.
"After a while, she again locked the door and windows. We then broke the window and found her hanging from the ceiling fan."
Locals informed that Mahmuda married Imran in 2016. Her husband is a Saudi expatriate and has recently returned home on vacation.
