BRAC University students' project wins OSUN pitch contest
A multinational student team, including three from BRAC University, has won the first prize of USD 1,500 in the "Launch a Different World 2024" pitch competition, part of the Social Entrepreneurship Practicum course under the Open Society University Network (OSUN).
The project, led by "Team Repurpose" focuses on transforming recycled plastic into affordable 3D printing materials and sustainable products. This initiative aims to empower communities, reduce plastic waste, and promote a circular economy.
BRAC University students Mohammad Imran Uddin (MBA in Marketing), Mohiuddin Ahmed (BBA in Finance), and Abtahi Abrar (BBA in Marketing) collaborated with Wei Jou Huang (National Taiwan University) and Maria Vlaykova (American University in Bulgaria).
The team plans to launch pilot production and distribute 3D printing filament for testing in Bangladesh, targeting firms that produce architectural models and personalised gifts. Collaborations are underway with Eindhoven University of Technology, Recycling Fabrik, and Tangible Creative.
The team expressed their belief that Bangladesh holds the key to sustainable practices, suggesting that successful implementation here could serve as a model globally.
The competition was sponsored by Bard College and the course was co-taught by faculty from universities worldwide, including Dr. Sebastian Groh and Neealana Naushin from BRAC University.
