Former minister Mosharraf Hossain shown arrested in 8 cases filed in Chattogram
The orders were passed following separate hearings on three petitions submitted by the police
Two Chattogram courts today (15 January) passed separate orders to show Engineer Mosharraf Hossain, Awami League presidium member and former minister of Housing and Public Works, arrested in eight cases filed in Chattogram.
The orders were passed following separate hearings on three petitions submitted by the police. The hearings were conducted this morning by three Senior Judicial Magistrates in Chattogram, according to Habibur Rahman, Inspector (Prosecution) of Chattogram district police.
He said, "Police had sought permission to show Mosharraf Hossain arrested in eight cases filed in Mirsarai and Jorarganj Police Stations of Chattogram. Five of these cases were heard in the court of Senior Judicial Magistrate Mahmudul Haque Sani. Two cases were heard by Senior Judicial Magistrate Fardin Mustakim Tasin, while the remaining case was heard by Senior Judicial Magistrate Mominunnisa Khanam."
Earlier in the day, Mosharraf Hossain was brought to the Chattogram court from prison under tight security. His defense lawyers filed bail petitions during the hearings, but all were denied by the court. Following the court orders, Mosharraf was sent back to prison.
Engineer Mosharraf Hossain, who has been elected multiple times as a Member of Parliament from Chattogram-1 (Mirsarai) constituency, was arrested in Dhaka on 27 October last year after the Awami League government was ousted on 5 August.
