Police officers assaulted during checkpost search in Ctg, 2 arrested
Five police officers from Chandgaon police station were attacked during a routine checkpost operation near the Mohra traffic police box in Chattogram last evening (14 January).
Two suspects have been arrested in connection with the incident.
Aftab Uddin, officer-in-charge (OC) of Chandgaon police station, confirmed the matter and said, "The incident occurred when officers at a regular checkpost stopped a CNG-run auto-rickshaw carrying two men and one woman. During the search, the two male passengers became agitated and physically attacked the officers, injuring them in the process.
"Both suspects were immediately detained, and legal proceedings are underway," he added.
The arrested individuals were identified as Md Morshed, 31, son of Monsur Ahmed from Charkania village in Patiya, and Md Karim, 38, son of Jabbar Soudagar from Dolipara village in Boalkhali.
The injured officers include Sub-Inspector (SI) Md Habibur Rahman, Assistant Sub-Inspectors (ASIs) Asit Nath, Abdus Sattar, Md Amirul Islam, and Farid Sheikh.
OC Aftab Uddin said that the suspects obstructed the officers in the line of duty and assaulted them.
"This behaviour is unacceptable, and appropriate legal action will be taken," he added.
Video footage captured at the scene shows the suspects, Morshed and Karim, getting out of the vehicle and verbally abusing the officers. One of the suspects, visibly enraged, is seen shouting, "Do you think I just washed ashore?" before charging at a constable recording the incident.
