Complaint filed at ICT against Hasina, 40 others over 2013 murder of Jamaat leader
The nayeb-e-ameer of Jamaat-e-Islami's Lakshmipur district unit was shot and killed by RAB at his home in 2013
A complaint has been filed with the chief prosecutor at the International Crimes Tribunal against former prime minister Sheikh Hasina and 40 others, accusing them of involvement in the 2013 murder of Fayez Ahmed, the nayeb-e-ameer (vice-president) of Lakshmipur district unit of Jamaat-e-Islami, at his home.
Fayez Ahmed's eldest son Hasanul Banna lodged the complaint today (16 January), lawyer Abdus Sattar Palwan told The Business Standard.
The complaint has been filed against 41 individuals, including Sheikh Hasina; former home minister Mohiuddin Khan Alamgir; former PM's military adviser Tarique Ahmed Siddiqui; former additional director general of RAB Maj Gen Ziaul Ahsan; and former RAB-11 commander Tarek Sayeed Mohammad.
After filing the complaint, Hasanul Banna stated in a written statement, "On the night of 13 December 2013, at 12:30am, Fayez Ahmed was taken to the roof of his house, beaten, shot, and then thrown from the roof to his death."
According to the complaint, a vehicle with RAB stickers, equipped with various government firearms, arrived at the victim's house in the Trimohoni area of town. The gate was broken down, and Fayez was taken from his second-floor room to the roof of the building.
"On the roof, Fayez Ahmed was severely beaten with the butt of a firearm, causing serious injuries to his head, face, and other parts of his body."
Following instructions from senior political and administrative officials, the accused former RAB commander Tarek Sayeed allegedly shot Fayez Ahmed in the right knee with a firearm, causing deep wounds and severe blood loss.
In a final attempt to ensure Fayez's death, he was thrown headfirst from the third-floor roof, landing on the ground below. His body was later abandoned at the Lakshmipur Sadar Hospital, according to the written complaint.
The victim's family has now called for a fair investigation and trial through the International Crimes Tribunal.
