6 arrested with 2.13kg crystal meth, 10,000 yaba tablets from boat in Teknaf
Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) arrested six individuals and seized 2.13kg of crystal meth (ice), 10,000 yaba tablets from a boat in the Bay of Bengal near Teknaf, Cox's Bazar.
Six individuals, including a Rohingya refugee, were arrested during the operation conducted late at night yesterday (15 January), confirmed Commanding Officer of Teknaf-2 BGB battalion Lt Colonel Ashiqur Rahman.
The detainees are Md Faisal, 20, Md Arman, 20, Jasim Uddin, 21, Md Bukhar Uddin, 30, Md Shafiquddin, 20, and Md Kamal Hossain, 55, who is a resident of Rohingya camp no. 20 in Ukhiya.
Lt Colonel Ashiqur said, "Last night [15 January], a consignment of drugs entered Bangladeshi waters in the Bay of Bengal through the Naf River estuary from Myanmar on boat. Suspecting its movements, a special team conducted a sea operation as the boat crossed the zero line.
The team chased down the boat and successfully apprehended six drug peddlers. Upon searching the boat, they recovered 2.13 kilograms of crystal meth (ice), 10,000 yaba tablets, and some cannabis."
"The boat has been seized, and a case has been filed at Teknaf model police station. The arrested individuals have been handed over to the authorities for further legal action," he added.
