One positive for Dhaka Capitals as their players are getting paid on time
The team at the bottom of the table, Dhaka Capitals, have paid the players in time says their Namibian recruit JP Kotze.
The Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) has been a mixed bag so far with its usual share of ups and downs but perhaps the incident that has caught everyone's eye recently is the Durbar Rajshahi players not getting paid yet.
After a practice session was boycotted by the players on Wednesday as the Chattogram phase began, the Durbar Rajshahi management addressed the media regarding delayed payments on Wednesday and then on Thursday.
"We had a very cordial meeting with the board president yesterday and he also talked to our owner. He committed to clear 25 percent payment in cash by today and another 25 percent by the end of the Chattogram phase," Durbar Rajshahi manager Mehrab Hossain Opi said to The Business Standard at the M A Aziz Stadium in Chattogram after the team's practice session ahead of their match against Sylhet Strikers, scheduled on Friday.
"The 25 percent payment will be done in cash today. We will also provide them a cheque of another 25 percent dated 19th instant. So the 50 percent of the payment will be sorted today," he added.
However, the reason for the delay was quite an absurd one as Jayed Ahmed, operations in-charge of Durbar Rajshahi explained was due to the owner's wife being hit by a ball on her hand and she had to be taken to Bangkok for treatment.
"As a result, the bank could not verify the cheque and it bounced," Jayed explained.
While Durbar Rajshahi's delayed payments remain perhaps the lowest point in this season's BPL, the team at the bottom of the table, Dhaka Capitals, have paid the players in time says their Namibian recruit JP Kotze.
"Dhaka has been fantastic in that regard. I can't fault anyone who has mistreated or mismanaged. The CEO has been so good at communicating. Even payments are on time. I just can complement our team. I saw this article in the morning and there are no worries in our group," he said to the media after their match on Thursday.
