Court orders seizure of tax files of Nowfel, Nasrul's wife Seema

A Dhaka court today (19 January) ordered the seizure of tax files of former education minister Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury Nowfel, and Seema Hamid, wife of former state minister for power, energy, and mineral resources Nasrul Hamid.
Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge Md Zakir Hossain Galib passed the orders, allowing two separate petitions, filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
According to the case documents, Nowfel is accused of amassing illegal wealth of TK2.27 crore and suspicious transactions of TK 113.89 crore through 41 bank accounts.
He is also accused of transferring and transforming the money and properties to hide his source of income.
On the other hand, the ACC alleged that Seema amassed illegal wealth of TK6.98 crore and keep those under her possession. She is also accused of making suspicious transactions of TK12.77 crore through her 20 bank accounts.
