Lowest temp drops to 7.9 degree Celsius at Tetulia

The county's lowest temperature today dropped to 7.9 degree Celsius at Tetulia, leaving the poor, elderly, and children in the northern region struggling with hardships until noon.
 
The local Met Office sources said the minimum temperatures dropped by two to three degrees Celsius although the maximum temperatures mostly remained unchanged in the last 24 hours ending at 6am today in the region.

"The temperature may continue to drop in the next few days and a mild cold wave may blow in the region in the next few days," Rangpur Meteorological Office Chief Md Mostafizur Rahman told BSS tonight.

Besides, the minimum temperatures recorded today were 11.9 degree Celsius at Rangpur, 11.9 degree at Dinajpur, 10.2 degree at Saidpur and 10.5 degree at Dimla and 9.6 degree Celsius at Rajarhat monitoring points in the region.
 
Meanwhile, the maximum temperatures marked a very little fluctuation at most places and remained between 22.8 degree and 26.6 degree Celsius today in the region.
 
Like yesterday, the weather remained better as the sun appeared in a clear sky free from fog and clouds today across the northern region where common people conducted their daily activities normally.
 
Rangpur Civil Surgeon Dr Mostafa Zaman Chowdhury said doctors continued to treat ailing people with cough, fever, asthma and other cold- related diseases at the hospitals and health facilities today like in the previous few weeks.
 
"We have adequate stock of medicines and special steps were taken at the government-run health facilities to treat cold-related patients, including babies and children in the district like in other areas of the region," he added.
 
District Relief and Rehabilitation Officers (DRRO) said the district administrations, NGOs and other organisations have been continuing distribution of warm clothes to cold- hit people in all eight districts of Rangpur division.
 
Rangpur DRRO Md Motahar Hossain said the government allocated 5,000 pieces of more blankets on Thursday raising the total number of allocated and locally purchased blankets to 33,372 pieces for Rangpur district. 

"Distribution of 33,372 pieces of blankets allocated so far is nearing completion in the district," he added.

Additional Director of the Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) for Rangpur region Agriculturist Md Obaidur Rahman Mondal said that the cold wave didn't cause any harm or cold injuries so far to any variety of growing winter crop plants.

"Our officials are assisting farmers in taking proper care of growing Rabi crop plants and Boro rice seedlings. Transplantation of Boro rice seedlings continues amid sunny weather despite temporary fogy weather in the morning in recent days," he added.
