Bangladesh women's Under-19 team came agonisingly close to securing victory against Australia but ultimately fell to a narrow two-wicket defeat in their Group D match of the ICC Women's U-19 T20 World Cup at the YSD-UKM Cricket Oval in Bangi, Malaysia, today.
After being sent in to bat, Afia Ashima Era top-scored with 29 off 34 balls, while opener Sumaiya Akter Suborna contributed a run-a-ball 13. However, Bangladesh could only manage 91-9 in their allotted 20 overs. Tegan Williamson, Eleanor Larosa, and Caoimhe Bray each claimed two wickets for the Australians.
In response, Australia raced to 50-1 within eight overs before Jannatul Maoua sparked a dramatic comeback for Bangladesh.

Jannatul took three wickets in three consecutive overs, including the crucial scalp of top scorer Lucy Hamilton (30 off 35 balls). Her efforts triggered a collapse as Australia lost five wickets for just 17 runs, slumping to 67-6 in 13.1 overs.
Bangladesh's bowlers continued to pile on the pressure, with Anisa Akter Soba and Habiba Islam Pinky each taking a wicket to leave Australia struggling at 86-8 by the 18th over.
However, Ella Briscoe and Tegan Williamson kept their composure, remaining unbeaten on 11 and three respectively, to guide Australia to victory.
Earlier, Bangladesh had defeated Nepal by five wickets in their opening Group D match. They will face Scotland in their final group-stage match at the same venue on Wednesday.
