Use of geo-informatics in tackling multidimensional disasters stressed at webinar
Speakers at a webinar on the impacts of Covid-19, cyclone Amphan and floods in Bangladesh have highlighted the importance of utilizing geo-informatics to tackle the multidimensional disasters.
It has been suggested that to cope with such multidimensional disasters, geo-informatics can be used for quick and sustainable rehabilitation projects.
Several speakers at the programme said they thought information technology had not been fully utilized to tackle the spread of Covid-19.

The experts think that using the spatial information of mobile phone, we could know about the Covid-19 patients' conditions, treatments and other information.
Bangladesh Society of Geo-Informatics (BSGI) arranged the webinar titled 'Cascading Impacts of Covid-19, Cyclone Amphan and Floods in Bangladesh: Now and Beyond' on July 10.
Prof ASM Maksud Kamal, president of BSGI and pro vice chancellor of Dhaka University, presided over the webinar.
State Minister for Disaster Management and Relief Dr Md Enamur Rahman was the chief speaker at the event.
Mohammad Mohsin, secretary of the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief, and Shah Kamal, former secretary of the ministry, were present at the programme as special speakers.
The main essay was presented by Mohammad Abdul Hadi, BSGI vice-president and country manager of Environmental Systems Research Institute (ESRI).
Geospatial information and technology can be used in future to exchange information between government and non-governmental organizations to tackle these natural calamities, according to the speakers.
They think that a government and non-government collaboration can help in such situation.
The speakers talked about the importance of a National Spatial Data Infrastructure. They also talked about preparing a digital elevation model using high resolution image for disaster management.
