15 injured in BCL factional clash at CMCH
Followers of deputy minister of education and those of the Chattogram city mayor clashed on hospital premises, leaving several injured
At least 15 people, including three policemen, got injured in a clash between two factions of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) at Chattogram Medical College Hospital (CMCH) on Sunday.
Sources said Deputy Minister for Education Barrister Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury Nowfel paid a visit to the hospital and provided some medical supplies for Covid-19 patients in the morning.
Soon after the deputy minister's return, followers of him and those of Chattogram City Mayor AJM Nasir Uddin locked into a clash on hospital premises, leaving several activists of both factions of BCL, five intern doctors and three policemen injured.
The injured were undergoing treatment in the hospital.
Abul Kashem Bhuiyan, officer-in-charge (OC) of Panchlaish Police Station, told The Business Standard if anyone lodges a complaint, action will be taken accordingly.
The injured policemen are CMCH police outpost in-charge Johirul Haque Bhuiyan, and sub-inspectors Abu Taleb and Alamgir of Panchlaish Police Station.
Habibur Rahman, BCL president of the CMCH unit, said, "Some outsiders came with the deputy minister. As soon as he returned, the outsiders attacked us and intern doctors."
Khorshedul Islam, a final-year student of CMCH, also known as a follower of the deputy minister, said, "We were suddenly attacked by the followers of the city mayor. A number of our activists got injured."
