National Sports Council announces new ad-hoc committees for 7 federations
This follows the earlier formation of ad-hoc committees for nine federations in November 2024.
The National Sports Council (NSC) has expanded its restructuring efforts by appointing new ad-hoc committees for seven federations: swimming, table tennis, fencing, weightlifting, karate, volleyball, and bodybuilding.
This follows the earlier formation of ad-hoc committees for nine federations in November 2024. The newly appointed committees are part of the ongoing process to reform and revitalise the management of sports in Bangladesh.
Mahbubur Rahman Shaheen has been reinstated as general secretary of the swimming federation, a position he previously held. Golam Mohammad Alamgir, who served as vice-president in the former committee, retains his role in the new set-up. Abdul Hamid, also a former vice-president, joins as a member, and Nibedita Das has been appointed joint secretary. The 19-member committee includes representatives from the Army, Navy, Air Force, and BKSP. Notable members include two-time Olympian Mahfizur Rahman Sagar and former swimmer Rafiqul Islam, who has been made treasurer. The Chief of the Navy now serves as the president of the federation.
The new table tennis ad-hoc committee comprises 17 members, with representatives from the Army Sports Control Board and BKSP. Former player and organiser Captain A.M. Maksud Ahmed has been appointed general secretary, while table tennis legend Nasimul Hasan Kochi takes on the role of joint secretary. A controversial figure from the previous committee, Khondakar Hasan Munir Sumon, remains as vice-president. The committee is led by Engineer M.H. Zaman, Managing Director of Microfiber Group, who takes over as president.
The volleyball federation marks the end of Ashiqur Rahman Miku's two-decade-long tenure as general secretary. Bimal Ghosh Bhulu, a former national player, has been appointed to the role. Faruque Hassan, the former BGMEA president and director of Giant Group, is the new president. Radiant Group's director, Naser Shahriar Zahedi, has been made vice-president. The 19-member committee also includes representatives from the Army, Navy, Air Force, and BGB. Former players such as Shirin, Jhilou, Amirul Hossain Apon, and Lincoln are part of the new committee.
Moazzem Hossain, a former vice-president, has been reappointed as general secretary of the karate federation. Sahzada Alam of Asiatic Cotton Mills has been named president of the 19-member committee, which includes representatives from the Army, Ansar, and BKSP.
Wing Commander (retired) Mohiuddin Ahmed has been named president of the weightlifting federation. Shahidul Islam Chowdhury, a former national weightlifter and trainer, has replaced Nazrul Islam as general secretary. The committee also includes Firoza Parveen, Azharul Islam, and Reshma as members. Professor Shariful Huda Ripon from Jahangirnagar University's Department of Geography and Environment has been appointed treasurer.
Mustafa Kamal, Additional IGP and Chief of the PBI, has been appointed president of the bodybuilding federation. Kamruzzaman, a former player and physician, takes over as general secretary.
Basunia M. Ashikul Islam has been named general secretary of the fencing federation, with Kamrul Islam taking over as president.
