Technological innovation essential for energy self-sufficiency: Siddique Zobair
Research-driven technological development is imperative for progress in the power and energy sector, alongside the optimal utilisation of natural resources to achieve self-sufficiency, stated the Senior Secretary of the Secondary and Higher Education Division, Siddique Zobair, today (30 January).
Speaking as the chief guest at a discussion meeting at the Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh (IEB) building in Ramna, organised by the Bangladesh Energy and Power Research Council (BEPRC), he highlighted the importance of technological advancements, innovation, and the engagement of distinguished national and international researchers and scientists in energy sector research.
Md Rafiqul Islam, Member (Additional Secretary) of BEPRC, delivered the welcome address at the meeting, according to a press release.
In his opening remarks, BEPRC Chairman and Senior Secretary Md Wahid Hossain reaffirmed the Ministry's commitment to energy security, highlighting financial support for research projects developing innovative technologies. He outlined BEPRC's focus on advancing new technologies, promoting sustainable renewable energy, addressing sector challenges, and offering policy recommendations.
Hossain emphasised BEPRC's role in energy sustainability through collaboration with regional and international institutions and involving renowned scientists in research. A panel of experts has been formed to enhance communication, with regular seminars and workshops supporting research at universities and institutions to drive innovation and strategic partnerships.
The event was attended by the Commandant (Maj gen) of the Military Institute of Science and Technology; Vice-Chancellors and Pro-Vice-Chancellors of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET), Dhaka University, Rajshahi University, Dhaka University of Engineering and Technology (DUET), Jessore University of Science and Technology, Hajee Mohammad Danesh Science and Technology University, Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology (CUET), Noakhali Science and Technology University, and Rangamati Science and Technology University.
Additionally, faculty members from Chittagong University and Shahjalal University of Science and Technology, the Vice-Chancellor of American International University-Bangladesh, and the Chief Executive Officer of IDCOL, along with representatives from various universities, were also present.
