Two employees of Igloo Ice Cream have been detained over the attack
A journalist of private satellite television channel Jamuna TV was attacked reportedly by employees of Igloo Ice Cream at the Dhaka International Trade Fair while covering the event's closing day at the Bangladesh-China Friendship Exhibition Center in Purbachal this morning (31 January).
The journalist has been identified as Joynal Abedin, Rupganj correspondent of Jamuna TV. Two of his mobile phones were damaged in the incident.
Two of the attackers have been detained and the stall of Igloo Ice Cream was shut down following the incident, Rupganj Police Station Inspector (Operation) Md Salauddin told The Business Standard.
"The police controlled the situation after being informed that a journalist was under attack. Two employees of Igloo have been detained," he said.
Meanwhile, speaking to TBS, Joynal said, "In the morning, employees of the Igloo Ice Cream stall tried to force their way into the fair, leading to a scuffle with the security guards at the gate. When my cameraperson colleague and I tried to record a video of the incident, the Igloo employees attacked us. They beat me up indiscriminately. The attackers broke my two mobile phones."
The month-long DITF concluded today.
Earlier yesterday, 10, including two policemen, were injured in a clash between traders at the fair.
