Tanzim Hasan Sakib handed two-match ban for repeated code of conduct breach
Having previously been fined, he has now accumulated four demerit points, triggering an automatic ban.
Sylhet Strikers pacer Tanzim Hasan Sakib has been handed a two-match suspension for violating the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) code of conduct for the second time this season.
Having previously been fined, he has now accumulated four demerit points, triggering an automatic ban.
The latest incident occurred on 30 January during Sylhet Strikers' match against Chattogram Kings. In the third over, Sakib dismissed Graham Clark and was heard making remarks directed at the batter. On-field umpires Gazi Sohel and Morshed Ali Khan reported the incident to match referee Ehsanul Haque Sejan, who subsequently imposed another demerit point, taking Sakib's total to four.
Under tournament regulations, any player receiving four demerit points within 24 months faces a suspension. As a result, Sakib will miss two matches, but the ban applies only to domestic competitions. He remains eligible for international selection and has been included in Bangladesh's squad for the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy.
With Sylhet Strikers eliminated in the group stage, Sakib's suspension will carry over to the Dhaka Premier League (DPL), where he will have to sit out the first two matches regardless of the team he joins.
This is not Sakib's first disciplinary offence in the BPL. Earlier in the tournament, he was fined 50% of his match fee and received three demerit points for a confrontation with Khulna Tigers' Pakistani all-rounder Mohammad Nawaz. On that occasion, Sakib was penalised for shoulder-bumping Nawaz after taking his wicket.
