Real Madrid's Rudiger set to miss Champions League clash with Man City
"Following tests carried out by Real Madrid's medical service, Antonio Rudiger has been diagnosed with a muscle tear in his right leg," the club stated on sunday.
Real Madrid defender Antonio Rudiger is a major injury doubt for their Champions League tie against Manchester City after suffering a right thigh injury during Saturday's 1-0 La Liga defeat to Espanyol.
The German centre-back was forced off in the first half, and tests conducted by Real Madrid's medical staff confirmed a muscle tear in his right leg. "Following tests carried out by Real Madrid's medical service, Antonio Rudiger has been diagnosed with a muscle tear in his right leg," the club stated on sunday.
According to reports in Spain, Rudiger is expected to be sidelined for at least two weeks, ruling him out of Real Madrid's La Liga derby against Atletico Madrid and the first leg of their Champions League play-off against City on 11 february.
His absence would be a significant setback for Carlo Ancelotti, who is already dealing with long-term injuries to Dani Carvajal and Eder Militao, both ruled out for the remainder of the season.
Pep Guardiola's side will host Real Madrid in the first leg before the return fixture in Madrid on 19 february.
