2 get life term, 10 acquitted in Tangail AL leader Faruk murder case

A Tangail court today (2 February) sentenced two persons to life term imprisonment and acquitted 10 others in a case over the murder of Awami League leader and freedom fighter Faruk Ahmed around 12 years ago.

The court acquitted 10 people including former local member of parliament Amanur Rahman Khan Rana, his brother former municipal mayor Shahidur Rahman Khan Mukta, central leader of the banned organisation Chhatra League Saniat Khan Bappa and businessman Zahidur Rahman Khan Kakon, as their involvement were not found in the killing.
The convicts are Mohammad Ali and Kabir Hossain. Both of them are absconding.
Faruk Ahmed, a member of the Tangail district committee of the Awami League was shot dead on 18 January 2013. Nahar Ahmed, Faruk's wife filed a murder case three days after the killing of her husband.
