A clash erupted between the Detective Branch (DB) of police and an agitated people at the UP office, prompting law enforcement to fire multiple bullets to disperse the protesters.
According to locals, a team from the district DB police arrived on the Dholoi union parishad premises at about 1:30pm in a black microbus to arrest UP Chairman Abul Monsur.
The presence of the unmarked vehicle raised suspicion among locals. As officers attempted to detain the chairman and load him into the vehicle, a large number of people gathered and tried to prevent the arrest. This led to a confrontation, with police engaging in a chase-and-counter-chase situation with the angry crowd.
A video of the incident, which has gone viral on social media, shows police firing several bullets to disperse the protesters before successfully detaining Abul Monsur and taking him into custody.
When contacted for a statement regarding the incident, Chattogram District Additional Superintendent of Police (DB and Industrial) Mohammad Russel did not respond to multiple phone calls.
