A victory celebration for Fortune Barishal's second consecutive Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) title ended in chaos today (9 February).
Gross mismanagement and inadequate security arrangements in the divisional headquarter ruined what was supposed to have been a celebration with the people of Barishal. At least 10 people were injured.
The event held at Bells Park in the city, was meant to celebrate Fortune Barishal's triumph over Chattogram in the BPL final in Dhaka on Friday night.
The championship trophy arrived in Barishal this afternoon, accompanied by the team members. Thousands of fans gathered at the venue to witness the players and the trophy presentation, followed by a scheduled music concert.

However, the celebration quickly turned unruly as an overwhelming crowd breached the weak security barriers and surged towards the stage when the team and owner Mizanur Rahman appeared at around 3:45pm.

Eyewitnesses and attendees blamed poor security arrangements and overall mismanagement for the disruption. However, event organisers and local authorities declined to comment on the incident.
